On The Ground In Florida

After waiting a few hours in both the Cincinnati airport, as well as the St. Pete airport, the Cats have finally made it to their hotel.   The wait was made a little easier thanks to some old time hockey shenanigans courtesy of head coach Blaine Stoughton.  Pictures have been posted in the gallery, so just take a look for yourself.

There was a slight change in tournament schedule when the team the Bearcats were to play first decided to cancel. Instead of facing off with Louisianna State for their opening battle the Cats will take on the Owls from Florida Atlantic University. The Owls are tied for 10th in the Southern region of the ACHA and should make for an exciting game tonight.

Game time has been changed to 5:30.  The remainder of the Cats games will be played with the same oponents, at the same times.

Pictures of the Bearcats in the airport can be found in the Media Section.

Bearcats Take-Out Colonels in Hostile Territory

The Bearcats traveled south this past weekend for their opening ACHA match-up vs. the Eastern Kentucky University Colonels. This was the first of four meetings between the two teams for the 2007-08 campaign, the last three of which will determine the winner of the Golden Water Bottle trophy.
The Cats have a long and storied tradition with EKU which dates all the way back to the Bearcats inaugural 2003-04 season. It was then that the Golden Water Bottle was born, igniting a bitter rivalry between the two squads. During this first ever ice hockey battle between the schools, a late goal was scored by Sr. forward Paul Oyen, in a tight game, sealing victory for the cats. Immediately after scoring this game winning goal, Oyen reached atop the goalies cage and took a drink from his waterbottle. A bench clearing brawl ensued and the two teams have been ferocious rivals ever since.
